World map highlighting 11BIO's four mission regions: North America, South America, Africa and the Middle East

North America

Anchored in Mexico, close to the North American buyers driving demand for carbon removal.

Mexico offers an ideal base for biochar production. It generates large volumes of agricultural and forestry residues, including sugarcane bagasse, corn stover, wood waste and coffee husks from regions such as Chiapas. Short logistics chains, competitive operating costs, improving regulatory clarity and growing interest in sustainable land management support both secure feedstock and local demand for biochar, while North America's carbon removal buyers are close by.

South America

Bringing carbon back to the soils where biochar's story began.

The Amazon's terra preta, dark and fertile soils enriched with charcoal by Indigenous communities centuries ago, is one of the earliest examples of biochar at work.

Today, South America's farms and forests generate vast residue streams, including sugarcane bagasse, coffee husks, rice husks and plantation forestry residues, and much of it is burned or left to decay. Our mission is to bring our proven plant design to the continent's agricultural heartlands, turning those residues into durable carbon removal and soil-building biochar for the farms around each plant.

Sugarcane bagasse, coffee husks, rice husks, forestry residues

Approach
Replicating our standard 25-ton-per-day plant design

Local impact
Soil fertility, water retention and shared energy for farms

Africa

Turning underused residues into carbon removal with real local impact.

Many African countries have exceptional feedstock availability through agricultural residues, forestry byproducts and organic waste that are often underused or burned. Feedstock costs are typically very low, and sometimes negative. Projects here offer high additionality and strong social and environmental impact, which corporate buyers increasingly look for in credible climate solutions. Surplus energy from our plants can power irrigation, cold storage and processing for the farms that supply them.

Agricultural residues, forestry byproducts, organic waste

Advantage
Very low feedstock costs and high additionality

Local impact
Soil fertility, food security and shared energy

Middle East

Solving a waste challenge and building soils for desert agriculture.

In the United Arab Emirates, abundant date palm residues and municipal green waste from landscaping and agriculture are often a disposal challenge, which makes them a low-cost or free feedstock. Biochar supports regional priorities around soil improvement, water efficiency, desert agriculture and sustainability, while the carbon removal credits it generates are sold internationally to meet growing global demand.

How we choose where to build

Successful biochar projects depend on disciplined execution. Every 11BIO site has to meet four conditions.

  • Secure, low-cost feedstock

Long-term supply agreements for residues sourced close to the plant.

  • Reliable industrial operations

Proven equipment, a standardized plant design and experienced operators.

  • Rigorous verification

Monitoring, reporting and third-party verification built in from day one.

  • Direct access to buyers

Pre-purchase and offtake agreements with buyers who need durable removal.
